The songs in this volume many of which date back to the early 17th century and which are sung to airs that are even older were recorded by J.L. Campbell and his collaborators between 1938 and 1965, mostly in the Outer Hebridean island of South Uist and Barra and the texts were transcribed and translated by him. Variant texts such as those collected by the late Fr. Allan McDonald of Eriksay have also been included. The tunes of particular interest to students of authentic folkmusic, have been meticulously transcribed and annotated by Francis Collinson. Bookseller Inventory # 001981
