This volume consists of 40 Scottish Gaelic labour songs traditionally sung ot accompany the work of fulling or waulking home-made cloth by hand in the Outer Hebrides. The texts of most of the songs, some of which go back to the early 17th century, were written down by the late Donald MacCormick in South Uist in 1893. Their translation into English was begun by the late Fr. Allan McDonald of Eriksay and has been completed by Dr. Campbell who recorded the airs from traditional singers in the southern Outer Hebrides between 1938 and 1969.
